A visit to the Bunker built in 1930’s in Villa Torlonia (Roma). Actually, these are pictures of the two levels of the Bunker. Why is that? A short explanation and a link in what follows.
In effect there are two air-raid shelters in Villa Torlonia. The first one is positioned more or less 150 mts from the Casino Nobile under the small lake in Villa Torlonia (as far as I know, it is not open to visitors). The other one (that the pictures refer to) is a real bunker, far more secure than the first one. The bunker is made of reinforced concrete on two different levels; the second level (deeper that the first) has been built for safer protection later in time, during WWII.
The visit is enriched by some videos illustrating Mussolini’s and his family life in Villa Torlonia during the 1930-40’s.
During the restoration of the site an old Catacomb was discovered and partially brought to light. It is spossible to give a glimpse of that by opening the iron anti gas doors (e.g. the black one along the first corridor on the right).
More info on the Bunker here (italian version).
