Near the curch named San Paolo della Regola, down the road level, you may find the remains of some recently discovered (1978-1982) ancient houses (or insulae romanae).

These house were found while restoring some buldings along that road. The restoration uncovered preserved Roman structures four storeys high, two underground and two above, which were restored and elevated almost to their current situation in the Middle Ages.

It is now possible to visit the archaeological site on the first and second levels below the current floor level of the 16th century Palazzo Specchi, which is occupied on the first floor by the Central Library for Children and on the upper floors by private homes.
