The church of Santa Maria del Priorato, formerly known as Santa Maria in Aventino, is a Catholic church located within the Villa del Priorato di Malta in the Ripa district of Rome; like the entire complex it enjoys the right of extraterritoriality
in ancient times it was a monastery, but then the entire complex was radically renovated in Baroque forms at the behest of Cardinal Giovanni Battista Rezzonico between 1764 and 1765, designed by Giovanni Battista Piranesi. Incidentally, it is the only church designed by the latter.
